About Us

People Will Always Need Plates is the creation of Hannah Dipper and Robin Farquhar. Launched in 2003, we use high quality, low volume batch production to create witty, thoughtful and stylish products as a direct antithesis to the current proliferation of cheap, throwaway design. In keeping with our credo that good design should be used and enjoyed, treasured and shared, we develop products that, while diverse in style and application, always retain the fundamental values of functionality and beauty.

Given our varied backgrounds (Hannah is an ex-RCA ceramist and has extensive industrial ceramics experience, while Robin, having studied industrial design at Brunel spent much of his early working life in exhibition and interior design agencies) we offer a complete design consultancy service alongside our own-brand ranges and commissioned wares.

In 2014 our work was showcased in the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, curated by architect Sam Jacob.

In 2013, plates from the People Will... archive became part of the permanent ceramics collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, acknowledging our influential position in the contemporary British production ceramics story.

Commissioners include the Royal Festival Hall, Hayward Gallery, Design Museum, Hepworth Wakefield, Turner Contemporary, De La Warr Pavilion, London Transport Museum, Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly
